Is it true that not everyone has the OPPORTUNITY to have the Holy Scriptures as the spine of their child's education?
What is keeping the Holy Scriptures as being the spine of your child's education?

So, I want to hear from you guys, does the public school system hinder the engraving of the scriptures? If you say no, then you say no! No need to defend yourself! But I do want to hear the positives, really, I do! I want to hear how it's helping to raise godly young men and women.
But if you say yes, then why?
And if yes, and you use the public school system? Why do you use it? Do you think your child being taught evolution will challenge their belief in Creation? Are you just praying that it won't be that bad?
Hmmm... I guess silence is golden, Jamie? Let me just speak as a homeschooling mom, but as someone who has seen people doing the pubLic school system "right." Obviously, from scripture, we are urged to train our children in the way they should go. Homeschooling, in my opinion isn't for everyone. However, entrusting our children's educations to the government should raise extra flags and make parents even more diligent in training their children in the Word. If they are spending most of their waking hours with peers and public school teachers, then the time they spend at home MUST be valued greatly and taken advantage of to the fullest. (One hour of Sunday school and/or youth group a week is not going to cut it for their knowledge of the Truth.) It has to be ingrained in their thinking and that takes work at home. And sacrifice, just like homeschooling does. So, if you're doing the work at home, then maybe the public school system isn't hindering so much as reinforcing the negatives of the world's thinking. But how are your kids going to know that if you're not CONSTANTLY dialoging with them? So...is it supplementing what you're teaching at home? Prolly not.
ReplyDeleteI'm in agreement. Homeschooling isn't for everyone. And if the parent is being intentional about the Scriptures being the spine at home, then by God's grace, I do believe it shall be that reinforcement in the school.
ReplyDeleteLike I said in the Facebook fiasco, I'm not here to say home education is the only way. But I want to challenge, encourage, provoke parents to evaluate how their children's beliefs are being formed, and take the necessary action to get to trainin' them how they deem fit...
A big reason for taking it here to the blog is to bring awareness to the "choosing" of the education being controlled by the "choosing" of the occupation for mom. So often I hear moms tell me if they didn't have to work, they WOULD choose to home educate.
For some reason, us stay-at-home-homeschoolers get to choose our lifestyle.
But I don't hear many working mothers express working as being a choice. So I dare to ask, but isn't it? Isn't it a choice to work? I'm not even declaring it is always the wrong choice, I'm just asking isn't it the choice?
Being a working mom doesn't automatically equal schooling outside of the home, because we know some working moms who still home educate.
But what if I were voiced how much I'd love to get a job and join the workforce, wouldn't I hear people say, "Do it! Go back to work!" Because, well, I could. I could choose that.
However, if a working mom says she wants to stay at home, and I say, "Do it! Stay at home!" All of the sudden, there is no choice.
I want to hear why they are held captive without a choice.
Look, if anything should scare my opponents from using the public school system, it's because their child could take after me and discover their love for debate in Current Events in Jr. High! lol
